The Oak Tree Inn, Balmaha

Following a gorgeous day on the Loch, our party of 7 hungry sailors began the hunt for somewhere to enjoy a relaxed supper prior to heading in our different directions for the night.

Having passed by the Oak Tree Inn earlier in the day where every surface, both outside and in, appeared to be filled with people enjoying the unseasonally warm temperatures, a free table seemed to be a bit of a long shot. The remarkably obliging staff however took our name and seated us outside to enjoy the views of the water, prior to a table becoming available inside and a very welcome dinner.

The wait was thankfully short and we were seated comfortably amidst an atmosphere of relaxed humour and tales of the day.

The Oak Tree Inn is not only outwardly inviting but extremely welcoming even considering a very long day and endless stream of hungry and thirsty customers.

Food arrived swiftly and from an informed and very friendly waitress; who really could have been excused for looking more than slightly exhausted; and our varying dishes were delicious – well presented, judged correctly in proportions and arrived at the same time – excellent food and service, exceeding normal expectations of pub grub.

Although there were still crowds remaining to be fed, there was no rush at the table and we were able to relax and enjoy an unhurried supper whilst the ever-busy waiting staff performed the ultimate miracle of accommodating all their expectant dinner guests in a tardis like fashion.

The perfect end to the perfect day – The Oak Tree Inn pulled off dinner service on a difficult day, to perfection.
