Old Town Chambers, Edinburgh

Old Town Edinburgh is enchantingly historic, with its medieval street plan built around the The Royal Mile, aptly named in the 20th century for it’s path between Holyrood Palace and the majestic Edinburgh Castle. It is here; down one of many ancient and historically documented alleyways that the surprisingly modern Old Town Chambers is housed.

A master feat of architecture, pod like structures sit; seemingly dropped into gaps between age-old buildings, contrasting the old and new seamlessly and manifesting luxury apartments with, arguably, the best views in town.

Hidden behind the popular and bustling tourist thoroughfare; our journey of discovery down one of a network of medieval closes, hunting out the sleek Old Town Chambers, merely added to the sharp contrasts that were to typify this particular stay.

A veritable warren of modern city apartments; chic, ultra modern and with stunning views, representative of our capital city today; dynamic, inspiring and superbly accessible. Our apartment, complete with front-door bell and private entrance level was housed over two floors with open-plan living space and bedrooms, all taking advantage of the superb views of the Edinburgh skyline, from the upper level.

Not often do properties surprise and delight in equal measure, yet this is one; so much more than a city base, expertly equipped, to the extent that our previously arranged dinner plans were regrettable; thoughts of replacing dining out with the sheer joy of preparing and eating a meal in such a unique space.

Light flooded the vast open plan apartment, where history is evident on many levels; the heart of the Old Town encompasses the Old Chambers, with turreted bastions and chimneys seemingly within touching distance of this contemporary viewing chamber and black and white prints depicting the space’s journey through renovation and development.

Enjoying the roll top bath with views over Princes Street was slightly surreal but representative of the unique nature of such a wonderful place.

Cutting edge technology, vast comfort and extreme luxury conspire within the walls of the Old Chambers where privacy is afforded and assistance is on hand – a fabulous balance of customer service.

Mention must be made of the vast balcony with fold back doors which opens the space up even further to fabulous views over the rooftops of the Old Town, down to Princes Street and over into Fife; a vista and skyline, no painting could ever wish to replicate and an endless source of pleasure, even for a person who was converted to the charms of Edinburgh many moons ago.

It is not possible to be more perfectly cited in central Edinburgh, with all the tourist attractions and restaurants of the Royal Mile on one side and the shoppers’ mecca of Princes Street, the aspect from the apartment windows, on the other.

The Old Chambers is everything and a contradiction in terms; it welcomes, intrigues, delights and fulfils every expectation you could possibly have of a pad in the city, whilst embedding your stay in the historic ambience of Old Town Edinburgh – this is Edinburgh at its best.
